About Hair Colouring

You may do hair colouring or hair dyeing to change your hair colour. It is mainly done as a cosmetic exercise or to change the grey or white colour of the hair to often black. Sometimes other colours are found desirable. This is also done to restore the original colour of the hair that has been discoloured by hairdressing processes.

Here are various hair colouring treatments at Vibrance Spa to help your hair needs:

  • Colour-protecting shampoos and conditioners

  • Sulphate-free shampoo

  • Purple shampoos and conditioners to maintain or enhance the blond colour in their hair

  • Treatments with UV absorbents

  • Deep-conditioning treatments to smooth and add lustre

  • Heat protecting products before using styling appliances

Traditionally, hair colour was applied to the hair as one overall colour. Nowadays several colours are used to produce streaks or gradations, but not all of those work on top of a single base colour.

  • Highlighting in which sections of hair are treated with lighteners

  • Lowlighting in which sections of hair are treated with darker hair colours

  • Splashlighting in which a horizontal band of bleached hair from ear to ear

There are also newer colouring techniques such as ombré, shatush, balayage, airtouch, in which hair is dark on the crown and bit by bit becomes lighter toward the ends.

These are off-the-scalp techniques, and can be applied by the following methods:

  • Foiling, in which foil or plastic film is used to separate the hair to be coloured. This is done when applying more than one colour. Thereby we ensure that that the colour is applied only to the desired strands of hair. This protects the strands of hair that are not to be dyed.

  • Place a plastic cap is tightly on the head. Pull the strands through using a hook. This method is used in highlighting short hair.

  • Balayage in which hair colour is painted directly onto sections of the hair. No foils are used to keep the colour contained. This method is popular as it looks more natural. It requires more precise hand-painting sections of hair and is a costlier method than ombre.

  • Dipping or tip dyeing. This like balayage in that the colour is painted directly on the hair. This causes the ends of the hair to be covered more.

All colouring techniques can be used with any type of colour. For lightening, the hair sometimes has to be bleached before colouring.
